July saw a rise in pending home sales to the highest level in more than two years thanks to first-time buyers taking advantage of the tax credit that expires this fall. According to the National Association of Realtors, its seasonally adjusted index of sales contracts signed in July for previously occupied homes rose 3.2% to 97.6. Contractors who have federal contracts need to start verifying whether or not their employees are able to work legally in the United States. Starting September 8, 2009, the federal government is requiring federal contractors to use the E-Verify system to check the immigration and citizenship status for anyone they hire and assign to new federal contracts.
