Get out your red clothes and a paint bucket because this Valentines’ Day could be the start of a lucky streak. You see, it’s the “Year of the Tiger” and in 2010 (Lunar Year 4708) the Chinese New Year begins on February 14, “Be Mine” day or in this case, “Be Lucky” day.
The festivities last for 15 days. Red is the primary color for Valentine celebrations and also for the Chinese New Year festivities. It’s the symbol of hope, joy and sincerity. And don’t forget “prosperity”, something everyone is hoping for this year.
Clothing featuring the color red is worn throughout the days of the New Year to scare away evil spirits and bad luck. Some wear new clothes from head to toe, perhaps to assure an extra measure of good fortune.
Don’t miss the big parade!February 27th!
